Lincoln, RI (Providence County) - Lincoln Fire and Police dispatch received calls for a reported single vehicle roll over on Route-295 Southbound in the area of the rest area around 2320hrs on January 28, 2008. The roads in the area were starting to get icy as temperatures dipped below freezing after a wintery mix passed through the area throughout the day. Lincoln Police arrived to find a single vehicle rollover off of the roadway into the snow packed shoulder. The officer reported that the sole occupant was alert and oriented but trapped in the severely damaged SUV. Rescue 2 under direction of Lt Willerval reported that Squad-21 from Station 2 was required to do a quick door pop to free the driver. Engine 24 arrived to set up a blocking position and also to provide extra hands along with hose line protection to the members working the scene. The firefighters from Station 2 quickly freed the driver from his vehicle using the preconnected spreader from the squad. The driver was removed using full c-spine precautions to the awaiting stretcher on the roadway. The patient was quickly evaluated and transported ALS to Rhode Island Trauma Center by Rescue 2.
