Worcester, MA – Box 09-19 was struck just before 2300hrs for the address of 531 Chandler Street on December 19, 2009. As companies called on the way, dispatch reported several calls were being taken for the address. First due Engine 9 had heavy fire showing on arrival from a 2 story wood framed vacant dwelling that was the scene of a previous fire months ago. Big lines were stretched in and also Ladder 7’s tower went into operation as command deemed this attack as defensive only. The building was slated for demolition towards the end of the month. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in 40 minutes by the exterior lines and tower ladder. Command allowed a crew of firefighters to reenter the dwelling to open up some walls and ceilings to expose hot spots. The fire was placed under control in an hour and a half with an engine and truck holding fire watch. No injuries were reported during the fire.
