North Smithfield Firefighters received a call for a possible dwelling fire at 492 Douglas Pike around 0900hrs on February 12, 2008. Car 1 arrived to find heavy smoke pushing from a 1.5sty 20x40 WDFM cape cod style dwelling. All occupants were out safely on arrival of first due companies. Engine 2 stretched in through the front door to start an aggressive interior attack. The bulk of the heavy fire on the #1 floor was knocked down with 2 hand lines. The fire made it's way into the #2flr and attic space. Woonsocket Ladder 1 made a great text book vent hole on side 1 and a second on side 3. Once the vent holes were established the fire made it's way out of the hole to take the heat off of the interior crews. The fire was totally knocked down about 10 minutes after the perfect vent work. Firefighters from Woonsocket, Nasonville, Oakland/Mapleville, Smithfield, Millville, Lincoln, Blackstone assisted North Smithfield by covering or working this fire.
