Burrillville, RI – 911 calls rang into dispatch reporting a possible explosion in a building on Douglas Pike in the area of the Western Hotel & Pizza Shop around 1610hrs on October 24, 2009. All Burrillville Departments were toned out to respond to the address of 698 Douglas Pike to investigate the reports. Nasonville’s Engine 31 arrived first due and reported smoke showing from a 2.5sty wood frame occupied multiple dwelling. A resident from the first floor was outside of the dwelling with flash burns and smoke inhalation. A 1 ¾ hand line was stretched into the apartment to provide a quick knockdown of the flash fire. Companies set up a PPV fan on side one to blow any residual smoke out of the dwelling. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to the scene to help identify the cause of the flash fire. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Trauma Center for treatment of the burns and smoke inhalation.
