Providence, RI - Ladder 4 spotted a large smoke loom up as they cleared a medical call around 1130hrs on May 11, 2010. Fire Alarm also was receiving calls for the address of 142-44 Chad Brown Street in the area of Ruggles St at the same time. Ladder 4 arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing on side C of a 2 story wood frame light weight constructed raised ranch style duplex. Engine 14 arrived as the first due pump and stretched a 2.5" big line to the rear to knock down the heavy fire. The fire had extended upwards and into the dwelling via windows, doors, and a gable vent on side C. The fire had taken possession of the attic area and burned through half of the sheathing and trusses of the right side of the duplex. All occupants were reported outside free of injuries on arrival of the fire apparatus. The fire was knocked down using one 2.5" line and three 1.75" hand lines.
