Woonsocket, RI - Engines 1, 2, 3, Ladder 1, Rescue 2, and Chief 1 responded to a reported fire in a 2 story wood frame row style apartment. Engine 1 arrived to find heavy smoke showing from an apartment in the middle of the row. An agressive interior attack commensed using an 1.75 hand line. Companies found heavy fire in a second floor bedroom on side 1. Ladder 1 set up on side one throwing their stick to the roof. The plywood roof was opened above the fire room with ease to release the heat and gases off of interior crews. A large diameter feeder line was laid from Engine 3 to Engine 1. A second line was stretched for back up to the fire floor. Ladder 2 and Rescue 1 arrived to complete the working fire assignment and to set up FAST operations. The bulk of the heavy fire was knocked down in 15 minutes of the arrival of apparatus. Salvage, overhaul, and investigation operations kept companies busy for an hour or so after arrival.
