Cumberland, RI - Firefighters responded to the vacant transfer station on the property of the Nunes Disposal at 150 Mendon Road just after 0630hrs on June 23, 2009. The vacant 2 story metal clad structure once was an office and rubbish sorting facility. The property is listed as a "super fund" site. First in companies from Station 1 had fire showing from roof area in the office area. The fire was quickly brought under control using three 1.75 hand lines. Engines 12, 22, 41, Trucks 1, 5, and Rescue 2 along with Chiefs 1, 2, 4, 5 responded to the scene. Mutual aid from Lincoln covered empty firehouses. No injuries were reported during the incident.
