Scituate, RI – All of the town fire departments responded to 57 Nottingham Drive around 1700hrs on January 07, 2010 for a reported structure fire with the possibility of trapped occupants. The first due companies found a well involved 2 story wood framed dwelling that was set back a few hundred feet off of the road. Cranston Fire also sent an engine and ladder to the scene on the initial alarm because of the close proximity of the town/city lines. Coventry and Chepachet also sent companies to the fire to fill out the balance of the second alarm. The firefighters initiated a rapid attack on the structure and also started to search for the trapped children. Three children and the family dog were pulled outside to safety and evaluated by EMS. An interior attack continued after the rescues. The incident commander pulled companies out of the dwelling after several minutes due to the heavy overlapping fire that was showing on side 1. An exterior attack using several big lines knocked the bulk of the fire down in 30 minutes. Tankers had to be used along with a 10, 000 gallon underground water holding tank that was located just off of the property. Firefighters made entry into the severely burned out structure to overhaul and extinguish the pockets of hidden fire. The RI State Fire Marshal will be assisting with cause and origin of the fire.
