BURRILLVILLE, RI – A Burrillville Police officer noticed brake lights from the ditch off to the side of the road while on routine patrol on Rte-102 near the middle school early in the morning of September 15, 2008. The officer radioed for fire/rescue units to respond while he checked for injuries. The officer found four victims, 1 walking wounded, 2 minor to serious injuries in the rear seat not trapped, and a serious injury trapped in the front passenger seat. Stations 3, 1, 2 were dispatched to the scene. Medic 3 arrived first and reported a car into a ditch against a tree with 1 patient trapped in the passenger seat. The OIC had companies set up the “Jaws of Life” to work on freeing the trapped front passenger. Medic 3 packaged the most serious patient that wasn’t trapped and transported them to Rhode Island Hospital and Medic 1 transported the other non trapped patient. The firefighters freed the trapped front passenger in about 10 minutes. The patient was packaged and also transported to Rhode Island Trauma Center for evaluation of injuries.
