Attleborough, Ma – Police reported a working fire at the James Sullivan District Courthouse as firefighters were being stilled out to 88 North Main Street around 0630am on the morning of May 18, 2009. First due companies had heavy fire venting from side 1 floor 2 on arrival of this 100x100 two story brick structure.. An aggressive interior attack kept the fire contained to the second floor. Ladder 1 threw their stick to the roof to begin vent work. The OIC recalled the oncoming group to staff the stations and to bring extra equipment to the scene. The bulk of the heavy fire was knocked down in 30 minutes with extensive overhauling to the second floor. The fire was kept out the attic but was reported to have dropped down to the first floor. Salvage covers were ordered to the lower levels to protect the important document s in this court house. The damage estimate was placed around $500,000.00 dollars. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by the Attleborough Fire Department and the Massachusetts Fire Marshal’s Office.
